I like where you are going with it - I just would have composed it a bit different - made sure I got the entire center knot in the photo - hopefully at one of the intersections for the rule of 3s.
I like the idea of a bold graphic photo. To my eye, it looks like you were in a low light situation so your camera used a slow shutter speed (to let in more light), which left you with a "soft" picture - it's not sharply in focus. This type of photo looks best either REALLY crisp, or totally and intentionally out of focus. Start looking around your house for areas of really nice light - not direct sunlight, but nice bright indirect light. The light is probably better at certain times of day than others. Paying attention to where you shoot and when can make a HUGE difference!
